Wall insulation: boards, slabs and rolls
For a masonry cavity wall there are mineral wool cavity wall slabs and batts (Knauf DriTherm, Isover CWS, Superglass Superwall) and rigid cavity wall insulation boards (Celotex CW4000 and Thermaclass, Recticel Eurowall Plus, Kingspan Thermawall TW50 and Kooltherm K108). For timber frame walls there are Knauf FrameTherm rolls and Kingspan Thermawall TW55 and Kooltherm K112 boards. To insulate the inside of an external wall, insulated plasterboard is the internal wall insulation board. Wall insulation on a roll for internal stud walls is the Knauf Acoustic Roll or Isover APR 1200.
Loft, roof and floor insulation
Loft insulation rolls are glass mineral wool for insulating a loft at ceiling level: Knauf Loft Roll 44, Isover Spacesaver and Superglass Multi-Roll 44, in 100, 150, 170 and 200mm. For a pitched roof insulated at the rafters there are Knauf Rafter Roll 32 and the Kingspan Thermapitch TP10 and Kooltherm K107 boards, and for a flat roof the Kingspan Thermaroof boards.
For floors, Kingspan Thermafloor TF70 and Kooltherm K103 Floorboard are made for solid and suspended floors, Celotex GA4000 and Recticel GP boards are also listed by their makers for floors, and SuperFOIL SFUF is a foil underfloor insulation on a roll.
Insulation boards, sheets, panels and batts
Insulation sheets and insulation panels are other names for rigid insulation boards, and all of them are in the insulation board range. Batts are slabs: semi-rigid pieces of mineral wool cut to fit between studs, joists or the leaves of a cavity wall, sold in the insulation slab range.
What thermal insulation does
Thermal insulation is a barrier to heat flow: it slows the heat escaping from a home in winter and helps keep it cool in summer. A properly insulated house is more comfortable and more energy efficient, and its heating costs less. Mineral wool insulation also cuts noise transfer between rooms and from outside.
